About Me

I was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to immigrated Filipino parents, and have lived in Vancouver since I was 4 months old. Since childhood, I’ve had a passion for language and visual art. My favourite assignments in school were writing stories, and I cared very deeply about social and environmental issues but did not have much of an outlet to express that. I had my first piece of writing published in The Province Newspaper when I was eight, and wrote my first poem when I was nine. I grew up in a Catholic family but now have my own spiritual practice, which includes meditation.

In University, I had more poetry, film reviews, and articles published. I graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Film Studies. In 2005, I helped to start the Vancouver Student Film Festival which later became the Vancouver Short Film Festival, where I sit on the Board of Directors as Chair.

In 2007, I left my first job in Public Relations, and started my own business called Middle Child Marketing Inc. in 2008 after becoming disillusioned by the corporate world. My obsession with words had eventually made its way into corporate storytelling. I watched a documentary called Earthlings, which led me to becoming nearly vegan and begin living an eco lifestyle. I started my own blog called Middle Child Reviews in 2010, and after challenging myself to shop locally in 2011, I became committed to local buying. In 2011 I also discovered that I wanted to dedicate my work to making the world a better place, and started Conscious PR.

Currently, I am a contributing blogger on Hello Vancity and on the Board of the Projecting Change Film Festival. I am also a member of Earthsave Canada, LOCO BC, and the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs (FWE). My life goals include owning a condo with a view of Vancouver, working for high profile changemakers, supporting family and friends, travelling the world, and contributing my time to serve others.

On this site you’ll find archives of my artwork, poetry, reviews, and other rants and collected writing. While I don’t write creatively that much anymore, I do enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my life partner, reading, eating, running, yoga, dancing, live music, attending film festivals, snowboarding, riding roller coasters, travelling, and being an aunt. My favourite film genres, TV shows, and directors include Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodovar, samurai movies, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, X-Men, X-Files, and Breaking Bad.

I believe that the divine lives in each of us and because of that, we have the power to create change in the world ever so slightly.
